Dining, Wine, and Wandering in the Okanagan Valley

📍Mission Hill Family Estate Winery, British Columbia

Tucked above a lush orchard with views stretching toward the lake, Mission Hill Estate Winery blends culinary elegance with natural beauty in a way few places do. I’ve visited before, but returning for another experience, this time dining on the terrace with my mom, reminded me why it’s one of my favorite spots in the Okanagan.

Whether you’re planning a trip for wine tasting, a summer lunch, or a romantic getaway, Mission Hill is more than a destination, it’s an experience.

Terrace Restaurant Lunch & Wine Pairing

We were seated at the Terrace Restaurant, a scenic open air space that perfectly balances refined service with sweeping vineyard and orchard views. Though the weather was a bit grey and windy at first, the sun eventually pushed through, casting a golden glow across the vines and our table.

Shortly after being seated, we were offered sparkling and still water and introduced to the first of two wine pairings. This opening wine was well balanced, and a beautiful complement to the atmosphere. It ended up being my favorite.

The set lunch included two courses: an appetizer and a main. We began with bread, accompanied by two dips, one with a sweet pink and white profile, and the other offering a zesty citrus bite with orange and lime tones.

The Menu: Flavorful, Fresh & Beautifully Presented

I chose their crispy cod with pickled jalapeño and tartar sauce as my first dish. It was honestly my favorite selection of the entire day. The fish was perfectly golden and flaky, and the tartar sauce had a delicious flavor that tied everything together.

When it came to the main, I debated between the Catch of the Day (scallops and shrimp) and the roasted duck with a soup style base. I was craving seafood, so I went with the scallops and shrimp. It was beautifully plated, incredibly fresh, and lightly seared to perfection. My mom chose the duck as her main dish and loved it so much.

We were also served a second wine pairing, slightly more reserved and earthy than the first, rounding out the flavors of our main course well.

A Sip Beyond Wine

To complement the wine, we also explored their seasonal mocktail style blends. We tried the cherry, mixed berry, and apple flavors. The cherry had a sweet, fragrant aroma, while the apple stood out most crisp, refreshing, and very long lasting, even as the ice began to melt. One of the hosts mentioned it’s a guest favorite, and I can see why. If you’re visiting and unsure of what to try, this is an excellent option you won’t forget.

To end the meal, we shared a Spring Fruit Tart with wildflower cream. The tart reminded me of a raspberry jam, while the floral notes of the cream added just the right touch of softness. A sweet finale to a beautiful lunch.

Exploring the Estate

After lunch, we wandered the stunning grounds, taking in the architecture, the views, and the stillness of the vineyard. Mission Hill’s estate layout makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a curated gallery of nature and design.

A Boutique Stop

Inside the Mission Hill boutique, we explored their range of wines, gifts, and elevated keepsakes. Guests were also enjoying wine tastings inside, adding a warm buzz of conversation to the beautifully designed space.
